Dr.
Richardson spent ten years working with mental health consumers,
both individually and in group sessions. The different facilities
included inpatient psychiatry, intensive outpatient programs, and
partial hospitalization programs serving individuals with chronic
mental illness & chemical dependency.
It became apparent that there
was a need for therapeutic tools that would allow everyone to participate,
whether just reading and recognizing a therapeutic phrase or delving
deeper into personal issues.
In
2000, Dr. Richardson began developing a line
of fun therapeutic games that are adaptable to different types mental
health facilities and any type of participant.
These games can be educational, activity
oriented, evaluative, or insightful. It is really up to the
therapist and the functioning level of the participants.
Plus,
Dr. Richardson's decks of discussion cards not only facilitate discussions
in groups but can be used as regular playing cards by individuals
too.
Dr.
Richardson believes learning
can be both fun and therapeutic!
